Abuse takes many forms in our lives, whether it be physical, sexual, verbal, emotional, mental, financial, cultural, or others. Abuse can be outward to where you can clearly see it, such as physical which is what most people think of when they hear the word. But abuse can also be manipulated to where the person being abused might not even know it is happening. Surviving abuse regardless of the type speaks volumes to a persons perseverance and ability to overcome. We here at Joyful Soul commend you in taking steps towards healing and are in awe of your bravery. Do not believe the lies abuse tells you. Change, safety, and health is possible.
Addiction comes in many forms and can be created from anything. Addiction typically is the outward sign that something in the past has deeply affected you and you are looking for an escape. Addiction is a vicious cycle and it works hard to hold you hostage and keep you consumed, defeated, and from functioning at your best self possible. We will work alongside you to navigate the relationship with addiction in your life. Together we will find new ways of thinking and new ways of coping to allow yourself to feel and move through your emotions rather than run from them.
Emotions are a natural part of all human beings but our emotions can get out of control at times. Anger is the easiest emotion to react with because it seems to get the quickest results. Together we will explore how anger can be utilized in a healthy by looking at where your anger comes from and we will then find ways to help keep your anger level in times that it tends to get the best of you.
Anxiety can be a debilitating, as well as a motivating factor in our daily lives. It can be a paralyzing, frustrating, and chaotic . It can leave you feeling out of control and torn between the need for connection and also the fear of connection. Understanding how to navigate your steps through the chaos is where freedom from anxiety comes from. Anxiety rises up differently in daily life. As we work together we will help you raise awareness within yourself. From there we will help you recognize how to respond to your anxiety and how to manage your reactions in order to keep moving forward.
Cognitive Behavioral Theorists explain depression as blaming setbacks on personal inadequacies, interpretation of the world in a negative way, and looking into the future with a gloomy outlook. Depression can present itself as a full body oppression. Together we will explore the ability to have our brains re-wired over time to seek joy and to focus on the present. Looking at the big picture all the time can easily be overwhelming. We would be honored to break down the big picture and seek joy in the details with you.
A traumatic event or situation creates psychological trauma when it overwhelms a persons ability to cope. Someone may feel emotionally, cognitively, and physically overwhelmed either separately or all at once. The circumstances of the traumatic event commonly include abuse of power, betrayal of trust, entrapment, helplessness, pain, confusion, and/or loss. Trauma that we experience looks and feels different for each person. Trauma can be triggered by our daily life and often when we least expect it. We will explore those triggers to see how you can respond positively and break out of the negative cycle.
EMDR therapy is a great option when it comes to trauma. EMDR is a treatment that was originally designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories. EMDR enables people to move through the symptoms and emotional distress resulting from disturbing life events (Shapiro, 1989a, 1989b). EMDR reprocesses these life events through bi-lateral stimulation and reprocesses your traumatic event to become an event in your life rather than a current emotional stressor.
Women throughout history have lead others in strong directions of freedom, peace, love, and community. But there also have been many figures throughout history that tear other women down and hurt people in general. All women have a voice. We will come along side you to hear about the struggles you face and to help you use your voice to advocate for yourself and others. Perhaps you have troubles in the above areas, or perhaps you do not. Together we will explore how we can lift one another up, provide each other with encouragement, and spread love.
